Fool me once, shame on you
Lying, cheating, hurting, stealing.
A conscious choice was made,
with or without any debts paid.

Fool me twice, shame on me
The careful man is never hurt
Steps lightly around what he does not know
Making sure not to let any new wounds grow.

Never be fooled again.
But still know strongly, regret,
from what he didn't do or say,
Living only with that, day to day.

Still holding up his guard, without a spoken complaint.

CREATIVE COMMONS: If you use it somewhere else... on that ever so rare occasion... I'd you to talk to me so we can talk about how to credit and where the heck your putting it. A little cocky of me... but I like it when the right people are credited for the right work. >.>...or really hate it when wrong people are given credit for something they didn't do.
---
While I was doing this, I first wrote the third paragraph in the first-person perspective. It seemed like it would add something... but as I read it a few times more it kind of lost it's touch. Plus I felt like it made seem too much like it was coming straight and true from me personally.

I don't like to make that kind of attachment in stuff I write that is emotionally driven in this sort of way, even if I do feel that way. Usually I might get a glance of that emotion at any time during the day...then later I need to bring it back and hold onto it. Often feelings like this do go away with time. I don't want people to bind me to something particular because of a single unique event. Time changes everything.

Heh, "A Quiet Night With Red Rusty", is different in that it deals with a different kind of emotion, and is composed primarily of imagery. It isn't talking about the person's nature as much as the experience. It's gives me a freer feeling than stuff your reading in poetry like this one.

What I need is a good defense
'Cause I'm feeling like a criminal.

Photographs are images that may convey an emotion, but they don't go out and directly say someone's personality or views are this.

But, heh thanks. I think I did decently with this poem.
